Set homework consists of:

READING

Reading is an important part of your child's daily homework routine. It does not have to be the class reader sent home, it can be any reading your child can read. To encourage your child to read for a purpose, it is better not to make home readers the only reading they do. For our first year at school students, reading will also include 'Popcorn Words', which consist of the Dolch Basic Words.

SPELLING

Spelling folders are sent home Monday to Friday for all children in Year 3 and most children in Year 2. The procedure for spelling is listed on every folder. Spelling folder words consist of individual needs words, theme words, and set year level words. Students should also practice their weekly spelling words. Our first year at school students can practice their Popcorn Words.

MORNING TALKS

Morning Talks are set fortnightly. Students have two weeks to prepare a 2 minute talk with 'something to show'. The emphasis of these talks is the 'talking' and the confidence your child gains by presenting themselves in front of others. Students in their first year of school do not need to do the set topics, or talk in term 1. However, in Term 2 they will be encouraged to speak in front of the class on any topic. Term 3 and 4 they need to prepare and present the set talks.

Students will get additional homework, if required to suit their needs.

Here is a website for extension activities.

This website is outside the schools webpages and does contain further external sites.

Although I will check it daily, it is advisable for parents to monitor your child's access to this site and all internet sites.
